Bye-Buy Bonus is “barking mad"

The Bye-Buy Bonus or Car Scrappage scheme being called for by the SMMT and most of the UK car industry is “barking mad”, claims Ling Valentine, a female Chinese immigrant who runs the UK’s favourite car leasing website, LINGsCARS.com

Ford fully supports scrappage incentive

Ford fully supports the introduction of a scrappage incentive scheme similar to those introduced successfully in other European markets. These schemes provide a cash incentive to scrap older cars to purchase new cars with lower exhaust emissions. These schemes have boosted new car sales, helping to retain employment and to provide tax revenue to governments, which helps to balance the payments made for scrappage. It is anticipated that the UK scheme will apply to vehicles aged between eight and ten years, and above.

What On Earth Is Scrappage?

It's an innovation currently being run in Germany which combines the potentially climate helpful eradication of older polluting cars with a real stimulation of the new car market to help boost the economy.

It is proving to be an enormous success in Germany and the UK is one of many countries looking on with great interest.

It involves the scrapping of cars that are more than 10 years old in exchange for a voucher worth approximately £2000, which can be used towards the purchase of a new or 1 year old car.
